Yes, words should be written as per recognized spelling custom and not abbreviated to show a shortened pronunciation.

Incorrect: I thought he was just kiddin

Correct: I thought he was just kidding

Exceptions to this rule are conventional contractions and widely recognized shortened forms:

Acceptable:

don't, couldn't, wouldn't, etc.

gonna, wanna
